11910 This man Kandata has done all kinds of crimes from arson to murder, however the Lord Buddha remembered the one good deed that he had done.
11911 Which is to say, there was a time when this man was walking through a deep forest, and found a small spider crawling along the side of the path.
11912 At that moment, Kandata immediately lifted his foot in order to stamp it dead.
11913 Then he rethought "no, even this little one has a life.
11914 I shouldn't take that away so recklessly.
11915 That would be too cruel," and ended up sparing the spider without killing it.
11916 While the Lord Buddha was observing hell, he remembered that Kandata once spared the life of a spider.
11917 As a reward for just that good deed, he thought he would rescue this man from hell. 11915
11918 Fortunately, when the Lord Buddha looked to his side, a spider of heaven was spinning a beautiful silver thread on a jade-colored lotus leaf.
11919 The Lord carefully raised the thread in his hand and lowered the tip between the pearl-white lotuses, straight toward the far away depths of hell.
11920 Chapter 2
11921 In hell's depths, Kandata was floating and sinking in the lake of blood with the other sinners.
11922 It was pitch black in all directions, except for the occasional dim light of reflection from the mountain of spikes, that could only bring about inexpressible despair.
11923 Beyond this, the hushed surrounding was only interrupted by the occasional faint sighs of the sinners, who were so exhausted from their punishment that they lost even the strength to cry out.
11924 Even the great thief Kandata, choked in the lake of blood, could only twitch like a dying frog.
