YourSingapore.com - Nasi Lemak (nasi-lemak)

There are two versions of this classic; the Malay (original) version has a straightforward offering of ikan bilis (fried anchovies) and nuts, fried fish, cucumber and sometimes an egg; whereas the Chinese version, like Chong Pang Nasi Lemak and the Changi Village Nasi Lemak (take the Bus No.2 to the Changi Village market to sample this unforgettable version) have a whole bunch of things like deep fried drumstick, chicken franks, fish cake, curried vegetables and luncheon meat (Asian Spam) in it.
Like the chicken rice, the accompanying chilli condiment can make all the difference; sometimes the chilli and plain lemak rice is enough for a satisfying meal.
Nasi lemak is always enjoyable whether at breakfast or any other time of day, and some stalls still retain the tradition of wrapping the rice in a banana leaf to enhance its flavour.
It is commonly found at food centres in Singapore, with the more famous nasi lemak stalls being the ones at the Adam Road Food Centre.

YourSingapore.com - Singapore Dance Theatre (singapore-dance-theatre)

Pride of the Local Dance Industry
Singapore’s national dance company, the Singapore Dance Theatre, was founded in 1988 by the late Anthony Then and Goh Soo Khim.
Located at Fort Canning Centre, it made its debut in June the same year at the Singapore Festival of The Arts (now called the Singapore Arts Festival) and has since gone on to further critical acclaim, staging numerous shows both in Singapore and on the world stage.
From a humble troupe of seven ballet dancers practising in an old studio on Killiney Road, the Singapore Dance Theatre has evolved into a well-patronised performing arts group comprising 24 dancers pre-dominantly from the Asia Pacific region.
Besides showcasing prominently at the Esplanade Theatre, the group is also responsible for the hugely-popular Ballet Under The Stars (BUTS) series of shows held at Fort Canning Park.
The Singapore Dance Theatre has also staged several full-length ballets in its history, with high profile performances such as the Nutcracker, Coppelia, Cinderella, Giselle, Madame Butterfly and Romeo and Juliet, just to name a few.
